Review of my earnings so far

"How are you doing so far?" you may ask!

I have around 25 money making ideas so far; another 55 to find!

For the month of February:

I easily achieved my target with the cashback sites. I have eleven on my list, and made over £100 combined on them, meaning that on average I earnt 30p + every day on each one.

I've just started Mylot and have 50c in my account! On Bux.to I earnt a few pence from testing it out, but I have just started this and need to get some referrals.

The Moon real estate idea predictably earnt nothing. I need to be a bit more pro-active on this one!

I earnt 30p in the month of February on Friend Finder - not every day but for the whole month, unfortunately! Perhaps getting my referral link on a website that people look at would help....

Dooyoo was a good earner, especially with the new payment scheme. I earnt £40 + for the month for this. I'll do a post on this in the next few days.

No one joined Winzy using my referral link and won me an Ipod unfortunately.

I earnt about $13 on Google adsense. Not much, but near my unambitious target of 30p a day.

I earnt around £10 from Voxant. Not much, but again a step in the right direction and around 30p a day.

I received a cheque from Global Test Market. The survey sites are quite good. Onepoll offers at least an £7-8 a month. Yougov sends lots of surveys. It's Your View sent £12 of surveys in one day!

I have no idea how to use Squidoo. I have about $1 in my account. Maybe I should make some more lenses and put the link everywhere!

I managed to earn around £60 from Ebay in February, so that is one scheme that is above the £9 a month target.

If I take my month's earnings and divide them by 25, then I have earnt around £9 for each one, which is on target! I now need to find more ways of earning £9 a month!

Mylot

A popular way of making money online is through MyLot. I've heard a lot about Mylot, but never actually knew what it was. Upon joining, I realised it's very similar to Yahoo Answers except you get paid!

I joined and started to respond to a few discussions, and it's actually quite good fun. I'm not sure of the payment system. I responded to a few discussions and had 30cents in my account after 2 days. From reading some blogs it seems you can earn, on average, 50 cents for an hour's work on Mylot. Maybe that time is better spent elsewhere, but the site is quite good fun. You can use Mylot to publicise your websites. I'm not sure what the policy on affiliate links is.

Mylot has a referral scheme where you earn a healthy percentage of your referrals earnings!

I'll test out Mylot over the next month, and I have addded it to my list.

Bizarre ways to make money

Apparently, someone placed a picture of a rabbit on a website stating that they would eat this rabbit if they did not receive a specific amount. People paid monney via Paypal to make sure this person did not. The website owner had no intention of eating the rabbit - it was just a picture of a rabbit and there was no real rabbit to be eaten!

This is an unpalatable way of making money; maybe many of the donations came from people who were aware that it was a joke, but gave him some money to reward him for thinking up a new money making idea.

What this proves is that There are many ways of making a little bit of money. If you have any money money making ideas that do not cost much - either in time or money - then have a go!

Thinking ahead.....

A few years ago, I made a selection of ecological cleaning products, candles, breads and Christmas wreaths and sold them at a Christmas craft fair. I made a little bit of profit, but naturally came to the conclusion that I would have to invest a little bit of money in bulk purchases of the things needed to make my products to ensure I made a worthwhile profit. Like many money making ideas, I got bored with that and moved onto the next one. I thought of reviving this money making idea the last two Christmases, but did not because it was late Novemeber when I thought of making some stuff to sell, and I only had a few weeks to make things.

What I should do this year is start to plan for the Xmas craft fair season NOW, and then I can go along to the craft fairs (along with some snacks and and a flask of tea of course) and make some money. I did notice more people selling Xmas wreaths this year. Ecological products are more popular now, and maybe as a result real wreaths and decorations are more popular. Is does make me laugh when people buy small branches of holly: but I actually saw people buying them....

I like the television programme Lost, and read a few websites and forums devoted to the programme. One of the websites I read - a blog (with a domain name, not a free blog) - was sold by the owner last year. One day he had a message on his site saying that the blog was for sale for about $4000, and a few weeks later someone bought it and continued the blog. I thought I could start a website or a blog and sell it. There are probably too many Lost websites now, so I probably couldn't make lots of money building a website/blog now (or could I? Please comment!).

Maybe the trick is to find upcoming actors and actresses whose career may take off in a few years. Or find the next big TV show - look at websites like Aint It Cool News to see what shows in production are tipped to be the next big thing. Then build up a blog or website which is one of the most respected visited in that field and sell the domain name content and advertising potential to someone else.

These are two ways of thinking ahead....

Voxant

The Voxant Newsroom provides news feeds for you to "embed" on your blog or website. Every time an embedded news feed is viewed on your site, you earn some money. Other people can embed your content on their site and this will earn you more money; on the feed there is an "embed code" button which will give your visitors the html code to cut and paste on their site.

There is a lot of content to choose from. News providers include: CBS, The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, The Associated Press, PBS, The Sports Network, MTV, CNN, BBC, HowStuffWorks as well as others.

You can embed individual Youtube style videos as well as text and image feeds. You can create your own feed which shows a selection of the latest stories in a particular area. I have created a text feed as an example, and you can view it at the bottom of this blog!

Voxant pays $4.00 for every thousand plays of a video; for text and images, Voxant pays $1.00 for every thousand times it is viewed. I've just started to experiment with Voxant, and have about 5p in my account!

I think I'll add this as another one of my ways to make 30p per day - although I'm not close to achieving that!

Selling land on the moon

This may seem like a crackpot idea that someone like Arthur Daley would try, but there are people selling land on the moon.

You may have seen the recent UK TV programme on C4 on the 4th January 2008 called First Cut: A Piece of the Moon.

A Mr Dennis M. Hope founded the "Lunar Embassy" and has been selling Lunar real estate for a number of years. He has received a lot of publicity, and has appeared in the media. He has a person in the UK selling his Lunar Embassy land on the moon, and this man has got British supermarkets and high street shops such as WH Smith selling it. He featured in the C4 programme - at one stage taking a pro-active approach to selling his moon land by approaching people in the street dressed as an astronaut!

I registered as an affiliate for the Lunar Embassy via a website called Planetaryinvestments. This domain subsequently disappeared (it is now for sale if anyone wants to buy it); I emailed the Lunar Embassy who denied all knowledge of PlanetaryInvestments! Luckily, I hadn't earned any money.

But there are other companies selling land on the moon, such as the Lunar Registry. I have signed up to their affiliate programme, and this makes up another of my eighty ways of making £9 a month.

You could sign up to their affiliate programme, or even sell your own moon land, making your own moon land certificates and sales packs. Some of these moon land companies may have a valid claim to the moon; but, I think most people realise it is a bit of fun, and moon land certificates make a great "tongue in cheek" gift.

Google Adsense

Most people have heard of Google Adsense by now. You simply cut and paste their ad code, incorporate into your site and make money every time a visitor to your website clicks on one of the ads. You can see an example on this blog.

The trick is to incorporate the Adsense ads into your site, so they are not "obvious" ads. Don't click on them yourself or you will be banned. If you are not that familiar with Google Ads, look out for them next time you are browsing websites; you can also pick up tips on where to place the ads on your page by seeing where other people have placed theirs.

I have adsense on another film-related website I have, and earn around £5 per month. Hopefully with this blog and a few other sites, I can get this up to £9 a month

Welcome to my new blog!



Like many people, I would like to make some (easy!) money off the internet. Some people would like to make a fortune; others simply want to make a few hundred pounds (or dollars) a month as a small bonus.

To be honest, I fall into the latter category. If I manage to find a way of making £50,000 a month off the internet then I will pleased. But like many people, £500 a month would be a nice bonus.

Like others who have scoured the internet looking for ways to make some extra money I have found the familar ways of making money: Ebay, Adsense, Cashback sites, and all the other affiliate schemes. Like many others, I have received money - but not a lot. Many of these schemes earn between £1 and £50 per month.

What I want to do is find eighty ways of making the rather miniscule amount of 30p every day. If I could do this, then I could make £720 a month (30 days), which means that each scheme would have to make £9 a month. That should be achievable, shouldn't it?

What I plan to do is find eighty ways of making money, list them, and see how much each one makes a month. Some may make more than £9 a month. Some may make less. Can I make £720 a month? I will include some easy ways I find making money in real life too, although the fun part is finding ways to make a little extra money from the comfort of my own home.

Hopefully I will make lots of cash and retire to the Swiss Alps? Or hopefully just be able to make an extra £700 a month!
